Team Trimite Lifts British Gt Racing Title At First Attempt

The global industrial paint manufacturer, Trimite Group, together with Southampton based Brookspeed International Motorsport, has won the Avon Tyres 2008 British GT Championship at its first attempt.

Racing as Team Trimite Brookspeed, team drivers Jon Barnes and James Gornall lifted the 2008 Crown at the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit on 13 July with two rounds of the Championship left to run. The 500 bhp Team Trimite Dodge Viper GT3 race car notched up its fourth victory of the season in race one. Having led race 2 for over 40 minutes, the team recovered from a broken rear wheel - thanks to some quick work from the Trimite pit crew - to score the two points needed to win the Championship.

Trimite Group CEO, David Roberts, says: "We first became involved in GT racing with Brookspeed on an adhoc basis last year. Having analysed our activity carefully over the off season, the decision was taken to increase our involvement with the formation of Team Trimite Brookspeed for the current season. In racing terms, in what was meant to be a building year, our goal was one victory. To have won the Championship before the season is over is fantastic for Trimite and results from a real team effort.

"And we are delighted to have done it with two British drivers and a British team. In much the same way that Trimite takes on its competitors on a global stage to great effect, our team and drivers have taken on competitors and cars from all over the world, and come out on top. Long may it continue for both of us."

The Avon Tyres British GT Championship is held over 8 rounds at circuits throughout the UK. With the exception of the final two Championship events, where a single 2 hour race takes place, two races of 1 hour's duration take place at each round. Each car competing in the Championship has two drivers, with a mandatory pit stop during each race for driver changes. This year, the Team Trimite Dodge Viper has beaten Ferrari F430s, Lamborghini Gallardo's, Aston Martin DBRS9s and Porsche 997 GT3s.
