Points Finish for Team Trimite

Friday Testing

This was the first opportunity for The Team to see how the driver pairing of James Gornall and Jon Barnes would work. New signing Jon took the Viper out for the first of three 50 minute tests. He immediately put the Viper at the top of the timing screens. Taking into account this was Jon's first time in a Viper it proved what a strong driver pairing Team Trimite Brookspeed has for the 2008 season. The Friday weather of rain and hail saw James and Jon share the car in the final two sessions with both of them running strongly at the front of the pack.

Saturday Qualifying

In the first session, James put our Viper 3rd on the grid for Race 1; and was brought in to preserve his tyres.

Jon took to the track for a second session that was interspersed with flurries of snow; his time initially put him 4th but later dropped to 8th as the track dried.

With post-qualifying scrutineering came the devastating news that the car had infringed the specified ride height. Result - our qualifying times were disallowed and our Viper would have to start from the pit lane in both races.

Race 1

James is at the end of the pit lane awaiting his green light - GO GO GO and James storms out and goes from 26th to 13th in just four laps. The following five laps bring us to 3rd before he selects a wrong gear and in over revving the engine, brings our race to an early finish.

The rest of Saturday, Team Trimite mechanics battle valiantly to repair the engine. Faced with insufficient spare parts the Team need to source a replacement.

A loan engine, a long day and a Very Late Night.

Monday 4.00am the silence is broken as the Team Trimite Viper roars into life, spitting fire. We can hardly wait for the morning Warm Up session!

Race 2

Jon's turn for a pit lane green light. The Viper screams out, chasing the pack. In one lap Jon makes up 6 places and continues up to 10th before returning to the pits for the regulatory driver change. James continues the fight to bring our Viper to a brilliant 6th place and three points from a pitlane start!
